exile on Main street

Date completed: December 2019

In 1823 Australian explorer and surveyor John Oxley described Kangaroo Point as a “jungle, fringed with mangroves with the higher land open forest, covered with grass”, a point of difference to the surrounding geography that Brisbane now finds itself on - an ‘exiling’ of the norm.  As John Oxley says himself;  you should never stop discovering.

‘Exile on Main Street’ seeks to translate the narrative history of Brisbane into elements of Design. Here, a steel framed structure draped in planting inserts itself in the urban fabric as both a hidden gem in the greater Brisbane area while giving voice to the history of the urban and natural environment.
