Wray Avenue is recognised as a culturally important area in South Fremantle.
Specifically, the Western edge of Wray Avenue, in the context of the vibrant South Terrace strip. In terms of Heritage and lifestyle, this street identifies itself as part of the older established community with its cafe and alfresco lifestyle. It is home to Frank’s butchers and Galatis long established Italian delicatessen. The eastern part of the avenue has in recent years been less successful.
Matzin CAPITAL are proposing an upper level addition to this building, plus a mixed-use component activating the ground floor. We are proposing an urban intervention which has been designed to link in to existing spaces and the designed elements to the upper levels.

- Urban gathering spot – Café and Courtyard for locals.
- Office Space above with access from existing Car-park
- Bicycle parking, plus end of Trip facilities
- Car-parking on grade
We are respectful of the existing urban fabric of South Fremantle and surrounding historic cityscape. In terms of reducing the perceived scale of the development we have utilised the device of the contemporary addition clearly separated as a loft-style element on an existing older building.
As part of Fremantle continuing regeneration we recognise that this approach is both culturally respectful and allows for a revitalised use of our existing building stock.
